Kenney Assets: What's Free, What's Paid and How to Use Them

Kenney assets are free CC0 game art, 3D models, UI and audio. What's in the library, what the All-in-1 bundle costs, and how to import packs into Godot 4.

Kenney assets are free game art, 3D models, UI, fonts and sound effects from kenney.nl, released as CC0, so you can use them in commercial games with no credit required. You download each pack free from its own page. The paid All-in-1 bundle gets you everything in one download with updates, and it's a convenience you can skip.

We make Oryn, whose asset library includes Kenney packs, so weigh that. The facts below come from Kenney's own pages as they read on November 3, 2026. We didn't re-test each import step for this post. The Godot steps come from the Godot and Kenney docs.

The short answer

  • License: CC0, free for commercial use, attribution not required (Kenney support).
  • Download: free per pack on kenney.nl, with an optional donation prompt.
  • All-in-1 bundle: 60,000+ assets in one download. Search listings for itch.io showed a $19.95 minimum; Steam's listing plans a December 10, 2026 release.
  • Godot 4: use GLB for 3D and PNG sheets for 2D.
  • Limits: a recognizable look, and no import support from Kenney.

As of November 2026.

Who is Kenney?

Kenney is both a person and the brand behind this library. One press article describes a Netherlands-based artist releasing free assets alongside paid tools, and Kenney's own site now speaks of "our studio" with a copyright line starting in 2010.

Besides the assets, the site has a few other things worth knowing:

  • Starter Kits: source code on GitHub for Godot games, listing match-3, racing, 3D platformer, first-person shooter, city builder and a basic scene.
  • Asset Forge: a paid tool for building 3D models and 2D sprites from blocks.
  • A knowledge base with import guides.

The license: what CC0 means for you

Kenney's support page says all game assets on the asset pages are public domain licensed (CC0) and free to use, "even in commercial projects", and each pack page shows "Creative Commons CC0" beside its download button. Each download also includes a license file.

In practice, under CC0 you can:

  • Ship the assets in a paid game on Steam, mobile or anywhere else.
  • Edit, recolor and combine them with anything.
  • Use them without crediting anyone.

Three limits stay in place. Kenney's logo is reserved, and the support page says not to use it. CC0 doesn't grant trademark rights. And it comes with no warranty, though for assets published by their own creator that's a small risk compared with an anonymous upload elsewhere.

Credit etiquette

Attribution isn't required, but if you want to give it, Kenney's page says to mention "Kenney". A line in your credits screen or store page is enough:

Art and sound: Kenney (kenney.nl), CC0

Don't use the logo, and don't imply Kenney endorsed your game. The other way to say thanks is the donation page, since the download prompt explains that the free packs depend on community support.

One thing CC0 permits but we wouldn't do: reselling the packs as your own asset pack. Kenney's support page doesn't address it directly. The license allows it legally, but it adds nothing for buyers, who can get the same files free.

What packs exist?

The asset index has filters for 2D, 3D, UI, Audio, Pixel and Textures, plus an Upcoming tag. It ran to 14 pages with 16 packs on the first one, which suggests a couple of hundred packs. Kenney doesn't publish a total on the page, and the Steam listing for the bundle counts files: more than 60,000 assets.

Here's what's in each group, with examples and file counts from the pack pages.

GroupExamplesNotes
2D sprites and tilesPixel Platformer (200 files, 18×18 tiles), Tiny City, Tiny Factory, Scribble PlatformerMany come as tilesheets
3D modelsPlatformer Kit (150 files, animated characters), City Kit (Roads), Mini Dungeon, Modular Cave KitLow-poly, with animation in some
UIUI Pack (430 files), UI Pack - Sci-Fi, UI Pack - Adventure, Input Prompts, Crosshair PackButtons, panels, sliders, key and gamepad icons
AudioInterface Sounds (100 files), Music Jingles (85 files), Impact Sounds, RPG Audio, Voiceover PackTen audio packs listed

Textures and skiesSkyboxes, Skyboxes Space, Pattern Pack ExtraTextures filter
VFXParticle Pack (80 files, 512×512), Smoke Particles, Light Masks, Splat PackFiled under 2D

Series help you stay consistent. The Mini, Tiny, City Kit, Scribble, Board Games, Input Prompts and Pixel Platformer groups each share a style, and their expansions (such as the Pixel Platformer Farm and Industrial sets) slot into the same look. If you need more than one pack, stay in a series.

If you need something other than Kenney's look, the game assets guide covers other sources, such as Quaternius, KayKit and Poly Haven.

How to download Kenney assets

One pack at a time, free

Open a pack on kenney.nl/assets and press Download. A "Consider a donation" prompt appears, with a "Continue without donating..." link if you'd rather skip it. No account is needed for that flow, as far as the page shows. You get a ZIP. Keep it with the included license file.

This is the right route for almost everyone, since most games need only a few packs.

The All-in-1 bundle

The banner on every kenney.nl page reads "Get Kenney Game Assets All-in-1 to download everything at once, plus free updates". Here's what we could confirm on November 3, 2026.

DetailWhat we foundSource
Contents60,000+ assets across 2D, 3D, audio, UI and fonts, plus a launcherSteam listing
FormatsPNG, SVG, OBJ, FBX, glTF, OGGSteam listing
Steam"Not yet available", planned release December 10, 2026Steam listing
itch.io price$19.95 minimum, buyers can pay moreitch.io listing, search excerpt only
Lost purchasesRecovery through itch.io, Steam or Epic Games Store supportKenney support

Two caveats. kenney.nl itself doesn't print a price, and itch.io blocked our direct requests, so the $19.95 comes from a search engine's copy of the listing. Check the price at checkout. We also couldn't confirm the Epic Games Store listing or price, or whether the bundle's license text differs anywhere from the free pages.

Is it worth it? Buy it if you prototype often and want everything searchable offline, or if you want to pay Kenney back for packs you've used. Skip it for a single game: the packs you need are free already.

How to import Kenney assets into Godot 4

Kenney's support page says it can't help with importing into specific engines and points you to the knowledge base and your engine's docs. Here's the route from those sources.

3D models

Kenney's import guide says Godot supports OBJ, FBX and GLB, recommends GLB, and says Kenney distributes glTF as GLB.

  1. Copy the files into your project

Copy the GLB files into a folder inside the project, such as assets/platformer_kit/. If the pack has a "Texture" folder, copy that too and keep the relative paths, since each pack needs its own textures.

  2. Let Godot import, then instance a model

Godot imports on focus. Drag a .glb from the FileSystem dock into a 3D scene to create an instance.

  3. Fix colors if they look off

Kenney's fix: select the texture, then turn on High Quality in the Import tab. Godot's image import docs note that option works only with the Forward+ and Mobile renderers and is treated as disabled under Compatibility. There, set Compress > Mode to Lossless instead, at the cost of more video memory.

  4. Check the scale

Godot treats 1 unit as 1 meter. Place a 1.8-meter capsule beside a character, and if the size is wrong, change Root Scale in the Import dock so you don't have to scale every instance.

  5. Add collision

Imported meshes have no collision by default. For a level kit, select a mesh and use Create Collision Shape from the Mesh menu in the 3D viewport. Godot's 3D import docs describe the options for doing this at import.

Kenney has a second guide on importing characters and animations in the 3D section of its knowledge base. Purple or magenta models, per Kenney's guide, mean a shader problem in the engine, and missing colors mean the texture isn't assigned.

2D sprite sheets and tilesets

Many Kenney packs come with tilemaps: sheets of same-sized sprites, often with a tilemap.txt holding the tile width, height and spacing. Kenney's guide covers Tiled, Construct and Unity. In Godot, use the TileSet workflow:

  1. Create the TileSet

Add a TileMapLayer node, create a new TileSet in its properties and set the Tile Size to the size in tilemap.txt.

  2. Add the atlas

In the TileSet panel, add the PNG as an atlas. Set Texture Region Size to the tile size, Separation to the spacing value and Margins if there's an outer border.

  3. Set the filter for pixel art

For pixel packs, set the project's Default Texture Filter to Nearest (Project Settings > Rendering > Textures > Canvas Textures). The default linear filter blurs small pixels when scaled.

  4. Paint and add collision

Paint with the TileMap panel. Add a physics layer to the TileSet and draw collision polygons on the tiles that need them.

Pixel Platformer's 18×18 tiles differ from Godot's default 16×16, which is the usual reason a first attempt looks misaligned.

Audio and fonts

Kenney's knowledge base calls OGG the recommended format for sound effects and music, and its audio ships that way. Drop the files in your project and play them through an AudioStreamPlayer. Godot's audio docs suggest WAV for short, repetitive sounds because it's lighter on the CPU. If a sound fires many times a second, convert it to WAV (Kenney's guide uses Audacity).

Fonts are normal font files for Godot's font import. For pixel fonts, use Nearest filtering and a font size that's an integer multiple of the design size. Otherwise they go blurry.

A shortcut: the Godot starter kits

Kenney's Starter Kits are full Godot projects, and they already have import settings and scenes wired up. Starter Kit City Builder also appears on the Godot Asset Store under an MIT license. Reading one is a quick way to see how Kenney expects its models to be set up. See our Godot assets guide for the settings that apply to any pack.

Limits of Kenney assets

Kenney's library is hard to beat at its price, and these are the gaps to plan around.

  • It's recognizable. Widely used free packs look like widely used free packs, as our working with assets guide puts it. That's fine for a prototype or jam, and a real cost for something you plan to sell.
  • Stylized only. It's low-poly, flat and pixel art. For realistic materials and HDRIs, use Poly Haven or ambientCG.
  • Few specific characters. You'll find generic heroes and creatures, but not your particular character. That's where custom art or generated art comes in.
  • Thin on music. The audio list leads with effects, jingles and voice, and no pack is named as a full soundtrack (the Steam listing does mention music loops). See royalty-free game music.
  • No import support, no requests on demand. Kenney's support page says it can't help with specific engines, and new ideas go through social media without any promise.

Kenney assets in Oryn

Oryn writes a full Godot 4 project from your description. Its asset library includes Kenney packs alongside KayKit, Quaternius, Poly Haven and ambientCG, filtered to the art style you choose in planning, so you don't handle the steps above. It also generates the art and sprites the library doesn't have, gives each new game its own soundtrack, and ships a CREDITS.md listing the asset sources. A first build takes about 30 minutes, and you don't choose each pack by hand the way you do in your own project. You can export the Godot project and keep working by hand.

Try this prompt in Oryn

“A short 3D platformer in a bright low-poly toy style: a small robot collects 20 coins across three floating islands, with moving platforms and one simple enemy type. Third-person camera, keyboard, gamepad and touch controls.”

Frequently asked questions

Are Kenney assets really free?

Yes. Kenney's support page says all assets on its asset pages are CC0 and free to use, including commercially. Each pack downloads free from kenney.nl, with an optional donation prompt. The All-in-1 bundle is a paid convenience as of November 2026.

Can I use Kenney assets in a commercial game?

Yes. CC0 allows commercial use, editing and combining with no permission needed. Kenney's page says this directly. Don't use the Kenney logo, which is reserved for official projects.

Do I have to credit Kenney?

No. Attribution isn't required. If you want to give credit, Kenney's support page says to mention "Kenney".

How much is the Kenney All-in-1 bundle?

Kenney's site doesn't print a price. A search listing for the itch.io page showed a $19.95 minimum in November 2026, which we couldn't confirm on the page itself. Steam's listing plans a December 10, 2026 release.

Do Kenney assets work in Godot 4?

Yes. Kenney's import guide recommends GLB for Godot. Copy the model and any Texture folder into your project. For 2D, use the tile values from the included tilemap.txt when you set up a TileSet. Kenney also publishes Godot starter kits.

What's the difference between Kenney and Quaternius?

Both publish free low-poly assets. Kenney covers more types, including 2D, UI and audio, while Quaternius focuses on 3D kits, characters and animation. Quaternius's packs mostly state CC0, but one new pack uses its own license, so read the pack page.
