The best-known games made with Godot are Slay the Spire 2, Buckshot Roulette, Brotato, Halls of Torment, Backpack Battles and Road to Vostok. All of them come from indie studios or solo developers, and most are 2D. Below are 32 games made in Godot that we could confirm through the official Godot showcase, a developer statement or press coverage, with Steam numbers pulled on November 1, 2026.
Every game links to its proof. Titles that other lists get wrong, like Pizza Tower, have their own section further down.
The biggest games made with Godot
If you're looking for the best Godot games to play first, start with these ten. They're roughly in order of size. Steam figures are the all-language review count and the English-language positive score from each store page on November 1, 2026.
Slay the Spire 2 (Mega Crit, 2026)
Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder for one to four players, and the most-reviewed game on this list by a wide margin, with nearly twice Brotato's count. Mega Crit started the sequel in Unity and switched after Unity's September 2023 runtime-fee plan, redoing about two years of work (PC Gamer). Unity walked the plan back later that month. Mega Crit moved anyway and called Unity's actions "a violation of trust" (Game Developer).
Early Access opened on March 5, 2026. Within a week, Mega Crit reported 3 million copies sold and more than 25 million runs, and the game passed 400,000 concurrent players on its second day (Wikipedia, citing GamesRadar and Polygon). On Steam it has 214,778 reviews, 91% positive (Very Positive), though recent reviews sit lower at 73% (Steam).
Proof: Godot showcase.
Buckshot Roulette (Mike Klubnika, 2024)
Buckshot Roulette is a 3D horror game built around a gamble, made essentially by one developer and published by Critical Reflex. GamesRadar reports he made it in about two months (GamesRadar). It passed 1 million copies on Steam by April 17, 2024 (Game Developer) and 8 million on PC by December 2025 (KitGuru), which also confirms it was built in Godot.
The showcase now lists Switch, PlayStation and Xbox versions. Steam: 112,179 reviews, 95% positive. If that mood is what you're after, here's how to make a horror game.

Brotato (Blobfish, 2022)
Brotato is an arena shooter roguelite by Thomas Gervraud's studio Blobfish. GameDiscoverCo's analysis of game files, which didn't yet include Slay the Spire 2, ranks it the highest-grossing Steam game ever made in Godot (GameDiscoverCo). It had sold over 2 million copies on Steam by its 1.0 launch in June 2023 (Game Developer).
It came to phones in March 2023, then Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and, in November 2025, Switch 2. Ongoing development moved to Evil Empire in September 2025 (Wikipedia). Steam: 112,644 reviews, 96% (Overwhelmingly Positive).
Proof: Godot showcase.
Halls of Torment (Chasing Carrots, 2023)
Halls of Torment is a horde-survival roguelite with a pre-rendered pixel look, from Chasing Carrots in Stuttgart. It sold 70,000 copies in its first Early Access week and passed 1 million on Steam by October 2024. It also scored 88 on Metacritic and was nominated for Mobile Game of the Year at the 28th D.I.C.E. Awards (Wikipedia). The Godot Foundation's Steam data names it the biggest Godot release of 2024 by peak players (PC Gamer).
The team picked Godot after earlier trouble with Unity, and because it's free and open source, as Paul Lawitzki explained in a conference talk. Steam: 30,984 reviews, 95%.

Backpack Battles (PlayWithFurcifer, 2024)
Backpack Battles is a PvP inventory auto-battler from PlayWithFurcifer, a two-person studio in Germany. It sold 100,000 copies in under two days of Early Access, and the developers credit Godot as their favorite engine (Game World Observer). By April 8, 2024 it had sold 640,000, with 48% of sales from China (Game World Observer, April 2024).
Version 1.0 arrived on June 13, 2025. Steam: 19,088 reviews, 92%.
Proof: Game World Observer (above) and GameDiscoverCo's breakdown. It isn't on the showcase.
Road to Vostok (Antti Leinonen, 2026)
Road to Vostok is a hardcore survival shooter by a solo developer in Finland, and the realistic-looking exception among Godot's 3D games. Leinonen moved the project from Unity to Godot after the runtime-fee plan. The port took three months and 615 hours (80.lv).
Early Access opened on April 7, 2026. It sold more than 180,000 copies in its first week and more than 250,000 by late April, and the demo has passed 1.1 million downloads (Wikipedia). Steam: 9,186 reviews, 84%.
Proof: the 80.lv article above. It isn't on the showcase.
Dome Keeper (Bippinbits, 2022)
Dome Keeper is a mining and tower-defense roguelike from the German studio Bippinbits, published by Raw Fury. It began as a Ludum Dare 48 entry that placed 9th overall, launched on PC on September 27, 2022, and reached Xbox Series in December 2025 (Wikipedia). The studio's next game, PVKK, is already listed on the showcase as coming soon. Steam: 19,302 reviews, 93%.

Cassette Beasts (Bytten Studio, 2023)
Cassette Beasts is an open-world monster-collecting RPG with pixel-art characters in a 3D world. Two full-time developers, Jay Baylis and Tom Coxon, built it with part-time help (Wikipedia). Raw Fury released it on PC in April 2023, it scored 83 on Metacritic, and it reached Xbox and Switch a month later and phones in January 2025. Steam: 9,079 reviews, 95%.

Until Then (Polychroma Games, 2024)
Until Then is a narrative adventure from Polychroma Games in the Philippines, released on PC and PS5 on June 25, 2024. It won three categories at the Godot Game Awards 2024 and holds a 90% recommend rate on OpenCritic (Wikipedia). Steam: 16,207 reviews, 97% (Overwhelmingly Positive).

The Case of the Golden Idol (Color Gray Games, 2022)
The Case of the Golden Idol is a deduction mystery by two Latvian brothers, Ernests and Andrejs Kļaviņš. Andrejs told Game Developer they prototyped it in Construct and then developed it in Godot (Game Developer). It won Excellence in Design at IGF 2023 and was nominated for a BAFTA Debut Game award.
One caveat: the free Redux update in October 2024 ported the game to Unity (Wikipedia, citing Eurogamer). So it was originally made in Godot, but the version on sale today isn't a Godot build. Steam: 9,936 reviews, 98%.

Usagi Shima launched on phones first and came to Steam on October 29, 2026. 2D/3D comes from Steam tags and store descriptions.
Godot games on phones and consoles
Several of these shipped well beyond PC:
- Phones: Brotato, Halls of Torment, Cassette Beasts, Luck be a Landlord, Rift Riff, Usagi Shima and Spooky Express. Erabit Studios ported both Brotato and Halls of Torment to mobile. For your own phone game, start with how to make a mobile game.
- Consoles: Brotato (Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox), Cassette Beasts (Xbox, Switch), Until Then (PS5, Switch, Xbox), Halls of Torment (PS5, Xbox), Dome Keeper (Xbox Series), Arctic Eggs (Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series since October 20, 2026), Kamaeru (Xbox, Switch) and Koira (PlayStation). The showcase also lists Buckshot Roulette for Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.
3D games made in Godot
Godot's biggest hits are mostly 2D, but 10 of the 32 games above are 3D or mix 3D with 2D art. Most Godot 3D games lean stylized, lo-fi or retro. Road to Vostok is the realistic exception. If you searched for Godot 3D games to see whether the engine can handle it, these are the ones to look at:
- Buckshot Roulette (2024): the biggest 3D hit on this list, at more than 8 million copies on PC.
- Cruelty Squad (2021): an immersive-sim FPS from Consumer Softproducts, with 23,470 Steam reviews at 96%.
- Road to Vostok (2026): a realistic survival shooter by one developer, ported from Unity in three months.
- Cassette Beasts (2023): an open 3D world with pixel-art characters.
- Arctic Eggs (2024): a first-person cooking and physics game from The Water Museum, published by Critical Reflex. Its Godot credit comes from GamingOnLinux coverage cited on Wikipedia.
- Pratfall (2026): an online co-op physics comedy roguelike, played in first person.
- KinitoPET (2024): a psychological horror game dressed up as a desktop pet, mixing 2D and 3D.
- DOGWALK (2025): a free short walking game from Blender Studio.
- Find Your Words (2026): a free, cozy point-and-click from Capybara Games, viewed from above.
- Spooky Express (2025): an isometric puzzle game from Draknek and Friends.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate uses a modified Godot as a rendering layer, which makes it a special case rather than a typical Godot game. It's covered further down.
Notice the cameras. Four of these ten are first-person and two use a top-down or isometric view. There's a practical reason to copy that if you're new to 3D: a first-person camera means no player character to model and animate, and a top-down or isometric camera shows a smaller slice of the world, so there's less to build. Our guide on how to make a 3D game picks up from there.
If you'd rather start from a prompt than an empty editor, Oryn's 3D game maker turns a brief like this into a Godot project you can play in the browser:
How many games are made with Godot?
Nobody publishes a clean total, and the trackers that exist count in different ways. Here's what the available numbers say, each with its method and date.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Godot games released on Steam | 56 (2019), 106 (2020), 819 (2024), 1,229 (2025) | Godot Foundation, SteamDB data, via APP2TOP and PC Gamer |
| Godot share of new Steam releases | 0.9% (2020) to 7.1% (2025) | GameDiscoverCo, 33,000+ games scanned |
| Godot share of unreleased Steam games | 8.6% | GameDiscoverCo |
| Godot share of 2025 Steam games over $500k revenue | 4.1% | GameDiscoverCo |
| Unity and Unreal share of 2025 Steam releases | 49.4% and about 20% | GameDiscoverCo |
| Godot games on itch.io | 36,500 (February 2026), about 2.4x February 2024 | APP2TOP |
| GMTK Game Jam entries made in Godot | 13% (2021) to 47% (2026) | Game World Observer, GameDiscoverCo |
| Downloads per Godot release | about 2 million | Godot blog |
The Steam numbers come from Clay John, a Godot Foundation board member, who pulled them from SteamDB. His post shows them as graphs only, describes the trend as close to exponential, and cautions that the data isn't an exact picture (Godot blog). Treat them as a direction, not a census.
The share numbers tell a sharper story. Godot was 7.1% of 2025 Steam releases but only 4.1% of the 2025 games that earned more than $500k (GameDiscoverCo). In plain terms: lots of small Godot games and a handful of breakouts. The engine won't sell a game for you. Unity still makes up about half of all releases.
Game jams show the shift most clearly. At the GMTK Game Jam, Godot went from 16% of entries in 2022 and 19% in 2023 to 37% in 2024 and 39% in 2025. In 2026 it led for the first time, with 47% (about 4,900 games) against Unity's 34%, after Unity had topped the jam for nine straight years (Game World Observer).
Why studios switched to Godot
The Unity runtime fee
The clearest turning point was September 2023, when Unity announced a runtime fee. Godot's share of GMTK jam entries nearly doubled the following year. Mega Crit had about two years of Slay the Spire 2 in Unity and pledged to leave if the plan stood. Before it committed, the team tested Godot with a three-week jam game, Dancing Duelists (GameFromScratch). Unity walked the fee back, and Mega Crit left anyway.
Road to Vostok's solo developer made the same move and finished the port in three months. Chasing Carrots had picked Godot for Halls of Torment before any of this, after earlier trouble with Unity.
Free, open source, no royalties
Godot is released under the MIT license. You can use it for any purpose, including commercial and closed-source games, and nobody takes a cut. The one obligation is to ship Godot's copyright and license notice with your game, for example in the credits (Godot license). For a two-person studio, a free license with no revenue share is a business reason, not a nice-to-have.
Godot isn't always the last stop
The Case of the Golden Idol went the other way: made in Godot, then moved to Unity with its 2024 Redux update. Engines are tools, and a studio that switches is making a call about its own project, not a statement about yours. If you're weighing the two yourself, our Godot vs Unity comparison puts them side by side.
Games people think were made with Godot
Some games turn up on Godot lists that shouldn't, or need an asterisk.
Not Godot
Pizza Tower
Made in GameMaker (Wikipedia). At least one popular Godot roundup still mentions it.
Godot, then Unity
The Case of the Golden Idol
Built in Godot and released in 2022. The free Redux update in October 2024 ported it to Unity. The engine of the sequel, The Rise of the Golden Idol, isn't confirmed.
Modified Godot
Sonic Colors: Ultimate
Blind Squirrel Games' 2021 remaster for SEGA. People datamining the PC version found it used Godot without proper credit (Wikipedia), and Godot was added to the credits in patch 1.0.4 (TCRF). Datamining suggests a modified Godot serves as the rendering and runtime layer, combined with the original C++ code and Hedgehog Engine resources. Blind Squirrel's own project page names SEGA's Hedgehog Engine and its in-house Xerus Engine. Steam: 1,392 reviews, 68% (Mixed).
Unconfirmed
Webfishing, Psychopomp GOLD, TR-49
Wikipedia or a fan wiki lists each as a Godot game, but without a cited source. We found no showcase entry or developer statement, so they stay off our list until one turns up.
How to check if a game was made with Godot
Many "made with Godot" lists cite no sources, and some contain mistakes. To check a game yourself, work through these in order.
Search the official showcase
The Godot showcase listed 65 games, 7 apps and tools, and 2 upcoming games on November 1, 2026. It's curated, so plenty of Godot games aren't on it: Backpack Battles and Road to Vostok, for example.
Check the Steam curator
The Is it made with Godot curator is maintained by Godot contributors. It hit Steam's cap of 2,000 reviews, so the list continues in a second part.
Find the developer's own words
Interviews, dev logs and conference talks are the strongest proof. That's how Backpack Battles, Road to Vostok and The Case of the Golden Idol are confirmed on this page.
Read the credits
Godot's license requires its notice to ship with the game, so it usually appears in the credits or documentation. A missing credit isn't proof either way: Sonic Colors: Ultimate added Godot only in a patch.
What successful Godot games have in common
Put the 32 games side by side and a pattern shows up.
- They're mostly 2D. 22 of the 32 are 2D. Buckshot Roulette proves a 3D Godot game can sell millions, but it's the exception.
- Many of the teams are tiny. Cassette Beasts had two full-time developers. The Case of the Golden Idol was made by two brothers, and PlayWithFurcifer is two people. Road to Vostok, Windowkill and Buckshot Roulette are essentially one-person projects.
- The loops are built for replay. Half of the twelve most-reviewed games are roguelikes, roguelites, deckbuilders or auto-battlers, and two more are deduction games.
- Many started small. Dome Keeper began as a Ludum Dare entry. Buckshot Roulette took about two months. Even Mega Crit tested the engine with a three-week jam game.
- The same publishers keep coming back. Raw Fury published Dome Keeper, Cassette Beasts and Ballionaire. Critical Reflex published Buckshot Roulette and Arctic Eggs.
What that means for your first game
Start in 2D. A 3D camera, lighting and character animation can eat your first month before you've tested whether the game is fun.
Pick one loop you'd happily replay fifty times, and build only that. Brotato, Halls of Torment and Slay the Spire 2 each repeat one core loop with endless variations. That's a scope a small team can actually finish.
Make something jam-sized before something big. Dome Keeper began as a jam entry and Buckshot Roulette took about two months. A small first version tells you quickly whether an idea deserves more time. Write the loop down before you build it: a one-page game design document keeps a small team honest about scope.
Make your own Godot game
You can start the way these studios did: download Godot for free, learn GDScript and build the smallest playable version of your idea. Our guide on how to make a video game covers that route from the beginning.
If you'd rather not start from an empty editor, that's what we built Oryn for. It's a Godot AI game maker for people who don't write code:
- You describe the game in a prompt, with reference images if you have them.
- Oryn asks a few planning questions, one at a time, and writes a game design document for you to approve. Nothing is built until you approve it.
- It then builds a real Godot 4 project and a playable web build, which you test in the browser. The build button estimates about 30 minutes.
- You play it, say what should change, and every working version is kept so you can restore it.
- You can export the full, editable Godot project as a .zip that opens in Godot, with no proprietary format.
AI output varies between runs, so a first build is something to playtest and improve, not a finished game. On the free plan you can plan up to three games, and your first game is built free. Changing it after that, or building another, needs a paid plan (see pricing).
There are other ways to bring AI into Godot. If you want to keep working in your own editor, read about Godot MCP, and our roundup of the best AI game makers compares the wider field.
Your next step: pick one game from the table that you'd play fifty times, write its core loop in one sentence, then change one thing about it (the setting, the hero or the goal). That sentence is your first brief. Paste it into Oryn, or open Godot and build the smallest version you can play this weekend.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most famous game made with Godot?
Slay the Spire 2 by Mega Crit, which sold 3 million copies in its first Early Access week in March 2026. Before it, Brotato was the highest-grossing Godot game on Steam according to GameDiscoverCo, and Buckshot Roulette has sold more than 8 million copies on PC.
Have any big games been made in Godot?
Yes. Slay the Spire 2, Buckshot Roulette, Brotato, Halls of Torment and Backpack Battles each sold hundreds of thousands to millions of copies. Almost all come from indie teams rather than large studios. Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a special case that uses a modified Godot as a rendering layer.
Is Slay the Spire 2 made in Godot?
Yes. Mega Crit started the game in Unity and moved it to Godot after Unity's 2023 runtime-fee announcement, redoing about two years of work. The game is listed on the official Godot showcase.
Can I sell games made with Godot?
Yes. Godot is MIT-licensed, free for any purpose including commercial games, and charges no royalties. You only need to include Godot's copyright and license notice, for example in your credits, as the Godot license page explains.
How many games on Steam are made with Godot?
About 1,229 Godot games launched on Steam in 2025, up from 819 in 2024, based on SteamDB data shared by the Godot Foundation. GameDiscoverCo puts Godot at 7.1% of 2025 Steam releases. Both figures are approximate.
Can Godot make 3D games?
Yes. Buckshot Roulette, Cruelty Squad, Road to Vostok and Arctic Eggs are all 3D, and Cassette Beasts puts pixel-art characters in a 3D world. Most Godot 3D games have a stylized or retro look, and Road to Vostok is the realistic exception.
Was Pizza Tower made with Godot?
No. Pizza Tower was made in GameMaker. A related mix-up: The Case of the Golden Idol was made in Godot, but its 2024 Redux update moved it to Unity.
Is Godot harder than Unity?
There's no single answer, but game jams suggest Godot is quick to pick up. It was used for 47% of GMTK Game Jam 2026 entries against Unity's 34%, the first year it led.
